Root Canals
If you’re dealing with a persistent toothache, sensitivity, or swelling, you might need a root canal, which saves the natural tooth by removing the infected or inflamed pulp (nerves and blood vessels) and then filling and sealing the tooth. Our experienced team uses gentle and precise root canal treatments to relieve the pain and ensure your comfort every step of the way, so you can get back to living without discomfort.
What is a root canal?
A root canal or endodontic procedure on a tooth is simply the removal of the nerve of the tooth. This is done in cases where the nerve is infected or traumatized. Although many people have heard horror stories about root canals, 99% of the time it is not a painful procedure.
If the nerve becomes infected, (see toothaches) then the nerve needs to be removed from the tooth. How do we do this? the tooth is numbed using a local anesthetic. Once the tooth is numbed, an opening is made into the nerve chamber using a dental hand piece. After the access is gained, the contents of the nerve chamber are carefully removed using special instruments. The chamber and the roots are them carefully cleaned out using instruments and medications. After the canals are cleaned, they are filled and sealed using a special material. This prevents any bacteria from reinfecting the tooth. After a root canal is performed, it is imperative to have a crown placed on the tooth. The crown protects the tooth and prevents it from fracturing. After the crown is placed, the tooth returns to normal function.

What to Expect
01.
We begin with a detailed examination and digital X-rays to assess the extent of the infection or damage. This helps us confirm whether a root canal is the best treatment option for saving your tooth.
02.
To ensure your comfort, we gently numb the area with local anaesthetic. Once you’re fully comfortable, we create a small opening in the tooth to access the infected pulp inside.
03.
Using precise tools, we carefully remove the infected or inflamed pulp, clean out the root canals, and disinfect the area to eliminate any remaining bacteria.
04.
After the tooth is thoroughly cleaned, we fill the canals with a biocompatible material and seal the tooth. In many cases, a crown is placed over the tooth at a later visit to restore its full strength and function.
